New Release of MySQL Enterprise Server 5.0.44

This is a Monthly Rapid Update release of the MySQL Enterprise Server 5.0. The following is a partial list of changes:

  • Security Fix: A malformed password packet in the connection protocol could cause the server to crash. Thanks for Dormando for reporting this bug and providing details and a proof of concept. (CVE-2007-3780, Bug#28984)
  • Security Fix: CREATE TABLE LIKE did not require any privileges on the source table. Now it requires the SELECT privilege. (CVE-2007-3781, Bug#25578)
  • A new status variable, Com_call_procedure, indicates the number of calls to stored procedures. (Bug#27994)

New Release of MySQL Community Server 5.1.20 (Beta)

This is a new Beta development release, fixing recently discovered bugs. The following is a partial list of changes:

  • mysqld_safe now supports error logging to syslog on systems that support the logger command
  • DROP USER statements that named multiple users, only some of which could be dropped, were replicated incorrectly. (Bug#29030) Using events in replication could cause the slave to crash. (Bug#28953)

MySQL Connector/ODBC 3.51.17 (GA)

MySQL Connector/ODBC 3.51.17, a new version of the ODBC driver for the MySQL database system, has been released. This release is the latest release of the 3.51 series and is suitable for use with any MySQL version including MySQL 4.1, 5.0, or 5.1. The following is a partial list of changes:

  • The setup library has been split into its own RPM package, to allow installing the driver itself with no GUI dependencies.
  • Added an option (CHARSET) for specifying the default character
  • set for a connection. This must be used instead of a "SET NAMES" statement. Also available from the GUI setup dialog. (Related to Bug #6667 and Bug #9498.)
  • * SQLProcedures() did not handle NULL parameters, which could lead to crashes (Bug #28316)

New Release of MySQL Connector/J 5.0.4 (GA)

This is a bug fix release for the current production branch of Connector/J. Version 5.0.7 is suitable for use with any MySQL version including MySQL-4.1, MySQL-5.0, MySQL-5.1 beta or the MySQL-6.0 Falcon development releases. The following is a partial list of changes:

  • Setting the configuration parameter "useCursorFetch" to "true" for MySQL-5.0+ enables the use of cursors that allow Connector/J to save memory by fetching result set rows in chunks (where the chunk size is set by calling setFetchSize() on a Statement or ResultSet) by using fully-materialized cursors on the server.
  • Added configuration property "useNanosForElapsedTime" - for profiling/debugging functionality that measures elapsed time, should the driver try to use nanoseconds resolution if available (requires JDK >= 1.5)?

This function is useful for control of master/slave synchronization. It blocks until the slave has read and applied all updates up to the specified position in the master log. The return value is the number of log events the slave had to wait for to advance to the specified position.
