New Product Releases

New Release of MySQL Enterprise Server 5.0.32 (GA)

This is a Service Pack release of the MySQL Enterprise Server 5.0. The following is a partial list of bugs fixed:

Bug Fix: Compiling PHP 5.1 with the MySQL static libraries failed on some versions of Linux.
Bug Fix: On slave servers, transactions that exceeded the lock wait timeout failed to roll back properly.
Bug Fix: Metadata for columns calculated from scalar subqueries was limited to integer, double, or string, even if the actual type of the column was different.
The bundled yaSSL library was upgraded to version 1.5.0

New Release of MySQL Network Monitoring and Advisory Service 1.01 (GA)

The MySQL Network Monitoring and Advisory Service continuously monitors your MySQL servers and alerts you to potential problems before they impact your system. Over 65 Advisor Rules recommend best practices to eliminate security vulnerabilities, monitor replication, optimize performance and more. The following is a partial list of changes:

Batch rule scheduling: Performance improvement for 'batch schedule' on the Advisor page. Scheduling many rules against many servers is now faster.
Data items for rules - Added more data items associated with SHOW TABLE STATUS. This means rules can be written to access all the data items returned by that command.
Upgrade installers - Created "upgrade" installers that are much smaller than the full installers and can be used to upgrade an existing installation.

Article: MySQL Scale-Out with Application Partitioning

Eventually every database system hit its limits. Because database systems have random disk access, it's not the throughput of your IO system that's relevant but the IO per second (random seek). You can scale this in a very limited way by adding more disks to your IO system, but here too you eventually hit a limit (price).
