New OLTP Benchmark Results for MySQL on Solaris 10

Sun Microsystems released new MySQL performance benchmark results running online transaction processing (OLTP) workload on 8-way Sun Fire(TM) V40z servers. The testing, which measured the performance of both read/write and read-only operations, showed that MySQL 5.0.18 running on the Solaris 10 Operating System executed the same functions up to 64% faster in read/write mode and up to 91% faster in read-only mode than when it ran on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Advanced Server Edition

Capgemini Selects MySQL Cluster for Great Britain Seat Reservation System

Capgemini UK plc has developed a nationwide "Look-to-Book" seat reservation enquiry system for Great Britain based on MySQL Cluster and Dolphin Interconnect technology. Designed to meet challenging performance requirements in throughput and response times, the system can be accessed from sales points, call centers and Internet applications -- and is capable of performing in excess of the 600 transactions per second.

New Release of MySQL 5.0.21 Community Edition (GA)

This is a bug fix release of MySQL 5.0 that includes the following new features and changes:

  • Security enhancement: Added the global max_prepared_stmt_count system variable to limit the total number of prepared statements in the server. This limits the potential for denial-of-service attacks, causing the server to run out of memory.
  • MySQL Cluster: It is now possible to install MySQL with Cluster support to a non-default location and change the search path for font description files using either the --basedir or --character-sets-dir options.
  • In result set metadata, the MYSQL_FIELD.length value for BIT columns now is reported in number of bits. For example, the value for a BIT(9) column is 9. (Formerly, the value was related to number of bytes.)

New Release of MySQL 5.1.9 Community Edition (Beta)

This is a bug fix release of MySQL 5.1 that includes the following new features and changes:

  • For partitioned tables, the output of SHOW TABLE STATUS now shows in the Engine column the name of the storage engine used by all partitions for the table; in the Create_options column, the output now shows "partitioned" for a partitioned table. This change also affects the values shown in the corresponding columns of the INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES table.
  • mysqld_safe no longer checks for a mysqld-max binary. Instead, mysqld_safe nows checks only for the standard mysqld server unless another server binary is specified explicitly.
  • The NDBCluster storage engine now supports CREATE TABLE statements of arbitrary length. (Previously, CREATE TABLE statements for MySQL Cluster tables could contain a maximum of 4096 characters only.)

New Release of MySQL Connector/PHP MySQL 5.0.21 & MySQL 4.1.19

The MySQL Connector/PHP consists of the mysql/mysqli PHP extensions built against the latest version of the MySQL client libraries for Microsoft Windows. This binary release contains the mysql/mysqli extensions for PHP 5.1.2, with support for MySQL server versions 4.1.19 and 5.0.21.
