NetworkBRANDED is a ready-made social networking platform, based on the powerful Drupal framework that harnesses the potential of online communities. The platform came out of Brightlemon London, an experienced web team specializing in online creation, development and maintenance -- in particular for public sector and educational web sites.
As experienced Web developers, the team behind NetworkBRANDED understood that speed, flexibility, scalability and ease of integration are all key to delivering successful online projects. They also knew that for young audiences, sites need to offer social networking capabilities such as those offered by Facebook. Application infrastructure based on the LAMP software stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP/Perl/Python) is deployed in the majority of the world's top social networking sites, and became the natural choice for Brightlemon as well.
Through NetworkBRANDED, Brightlemon has now successfully delivered many popular projects based on Sun's MySQL database for educational institutions and government organizations. For example:
Shine Week (shineweek.brightlemon.com and www.shinearchive.co.uk) is a social networking Web site created to celebrate the talents of young people in England and Wales.
The site was commissioned by the UK Department for Children, Schools and Families through Creative Partnerships, the Talent and Enterprise Task Force and the Arts Council and built by Brightlemon.
Completed in only a few months, the Web site quickly has quickly become a resounding success – not only an integral part of the project, but the backbone of it.
The Web site utilizes the power of social networking to reach over 10% of schools in the country, surpassing its goal. Children from across the UK have used the site to showcase their talents by uploading images, audio and video clips -- and then rating and commenting on each others' content.
The site became home to over 3,000 multimedia uploads from almost 2,500 schools representing about 1 million students. Showcasing over 300 unique talents, the website was featured on BBC 1 Breakfast, BBC 5 live, PM.gov, Channel 4, and other nationwide media.
Using Drupal with MySQL and PHP allowed for the seamless integration of features and straightforward statistical reporting.

The project was re-commissioned to Brightlemon for 2009 and continues to grow; there are now over 5,500 registered schools.

English Online is an initiative that was developed by the British Council to encourage the learning of English in China. The project was to design and build a Web site to promote the learning of English in China, using a number of social networking features such as blogs, forms and polls to connect a community of over 100,000 users. One of the most important functions of the site was that it should be accessible to speakers of English and Chinese (both traditional and simplified), with multilingual capabilities. The solution was developed by Brightlemon, using the NetworkBRANDED platform built on top of MySQL. It has been so successful, that it was referenced in Prime Minister Gordon Brown's 2008 visit to China.
