Thanks again for the input and contributions we received since the last alpha build. We have incorporated fixes for building on other distros, cleaned up the source code and prepared a Ubuntu-repository for easy installing via apt package management. Note that we currently only offer i386 binary packages, if you need a package for some other architecture, please build it from sources.
On the MySQL documentation team, we've been discussing how to split it into easier to digest portions. But a real split doesn't seem the best thing to do, so we've decided to make use of our Arbitrary Docs System that allows to create arbitrarily compiled documents from the MySQL Manual. That system, called Arby for short, was written by MC Brown, and creates "dynamic" excerpts from our documentation sources, rather than static copies, thus those excerpts are always as up to date as the complete Manual.
On the MySQL Documentation Library page we've added a table with documents that serve the information needs of specific target groups, such as database administrators or developers.

A new addition inside the new "MySQL Online Backup" feature is encryption. Australian Senior Software Engineer Stewart Smith has already mentioned it a few months ago in his blog. There's a preview that you can download on the online backup pages. Probably it will be part of MySQL-6.0 source downloads soon. I've extract some paragraphs from what I wrote in a non-public worklog task, WL#4271.

One of the features that make MySQL so great is its easy replication set-up. If you are experienced and know-how to do it, it takes you about 15 minutes to set-up a slave. From time to time some customers are asking for the other way: Many masters replicating to one slave (which is also called multi-source replication).

There's remarkably little information online about using MySQL on ZFS, successfully or not, so I did what any enterprising geek would do: Built a box, threw some data on it, and tossed it into production to see if it would sink or swim.

I presented these at an internal MySQL professional services meeting about a month ago - its mostly a hodge podge of various benchmarks - but enjoy! The big difference in these benchmarks vs the other benchmarks is I am testing on the memoright GT drive, which is supposed to be one of the fastest SLC drives out their currently. Lets get right too it.

When I set-up a MySQL HA environment for customers I usually do some final fail over tests after configuring the whole beast. To check if the application behaves like expected I always run my little test application (test.sh) from the server(s) where the customers application runs. It displays "graphically" how the application behaves and you can show to the customer immediately what is going on...
