New Release of MySQL 5.1.5 Community Edition (Alpha)
This is the first public alpha release of MySQL 5.1. This release includes the following new features and changes:
- Added the XML functions ExtractValue() and UpdateXML() ExtractValue() returns the content of a fragment of XML matching a given XPath expression.
- Added the --base64-output option to mysqlbinlog to print all binary log entries using base64 encoding.
- Added the --port-open-timeout option to mysqld to control how many seconds the server should wait for the TCP/IP port to become free if it cannot be opened.

MySQL Connector/PHP is now Available
The MySQL Connector/PHP consists of the mysql/mysqli PHP extensions built against the latest version of the MySQL client libraries. The advantage on top of the mysql/mysqli PHP extensions currently available from php.net are that they contain the latest bug fixes to the MySQL Client Library, and make all the features in the MySQL server version 4.1.16+ and 5.0.18+ available.

New Release of MySQL Connector/J 5.0.0 (Beta)
MySQL Connector/J 5.0.0 is a new version of the Type IV all-Java JDBC. The new versioning number scheme is aligned with MySQL server version that the JDBC supports. New features and changes include:
- Support for Connector/MJX integration via url subprotocol :jdbc:mysql:mxj://…
- XA Distributed Transactions via the com.mysql.jdbc.jdbc2.optiona.MysqlXADataSource implementation of javax.sql.XADataSource.
- Statement.cancel() and Statement.setQueryTimeout().
