New Release of MySQL (5.0.9 Beta) is Now Available
This Beta release in a pre-production release in the 5.0 series. This release includes support for Stored Procedures, Views, Triggers, Information Schema (Data Dictionary), XA and more. Additional updates include:
- InnoDB: Various optimizations. Removed unreachable debug code from non-debug builds. Added hints for the branch predictor in GCC. Made assertions occupy less space
- The handling of BIT columns has been improved, and should now be much more reliable in a number of cases.
- mysqldump -- xml formats NULL column values correctly.
- Numerous bug fixes
All efforts are now being focused on fixing bugs and stabilizing MySQL 5.0 for the upcoming production release. Get a head start on your projects by testing MySQL 5.0 beta now.

New Release of MySQL Migration Toolkit (1.0.11) is Now Available
The MySQL Migration Toolkit is a powerful framework that enables you to quickly migrate your proprietary databases to MySQL. The Toolkit has support for:
- "Generic migration" from Any Database that has a JDBC Driver.
- "Optimized migration" from MS Access, MS SQL Server and Oracle.
All users are recommended to update to this new release.
The list of addressed bugs includes- Fixed incompatiblity with MySQL 4.0 as source database
- Connections did not get stored
- Tolerate errors in Oracle reverse engineering code for Oracle
- Changed internal naming of Procedures to Routines
New Release of MySQL Community Edition (4.1.13) is Now Available
This is a MySQL Community Edition release that contains new features and bug fixes. This release includes:
- Security improvement: Applied a patch that addresses a zlib data vulnerability that could result in a buffer overflow and code execution
- Memory tables now support indexes of up to 500 bytes
- Added the log-slow-admin-statements server option to request logging of slow administrative statements such as OPTIMIZE TABLE, ANALYZE TABLE, and ALTER TABLE to the slow query log.
- The table, type, and rows columns of EXPLAIN output can now be NULL.

Embedding the MySQL Server library in MySQL applications, MySQL doesn't have to be installed on the end user's computer. It's particularly useful with small devices and public kiosks. The embedded MySQL server also has the advantage of running faster with MySQL applications since there isn't a network connection or any passing of data between the application and MySQL. It's able to avoid these factors because the server library is embedded in the compiled program. Best of all, the embedded server library is part of the MySQL distribution.
