New Release of MySQL Community Edition (4.1.10a) is Now Available

This is a maintenance release of the 4.1 version, mainly fixing recently discovered bugs. This release includes:

  • Security improvement: The server creates .frm, .MYD, .MYI,.MRG, .ISD, and .ISM table files only if a file with the same name does not already exist
  • Security improvement: User-defined functions should have at least one symbol defined in addition to the `xxx' symbol that corresponds to the main `xxx()' function.
  • Please note that these changes affect the way in which User Defined Functions (UDF) are loaded. Please refer to the section "User-defined Function Security Precautions" in the manual: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/udf-security.html

New Release of MySQL (4.0.24) is Now Available

This release includes:

  • 'InnoDB': Added configuration option and settable global variable 'innodb_autoextend_increment' for setting the size in megabytes by which 'InnoDB' tablespaces are extended when they become full. The default value is 8, corresponding to the fixed increment of 8MB in previous versions of MySQL.Schemas replace the user/user-group feature.
  • InnoDB: Do not acquire an internal 'InnoDB' table lock in 'LOCK TABLES' if 'AUTOCOMMIT=1'. This helps in porting old 'MyISAM' applications to `InnoDB'. 'InnoDB' table locks in that case caused deadlocks very easily.

New Release of MaxDB Beta (7.5.00.24) is Now Available

This release includes:
  • A new version of the MaxDB PHP extension. MaxDB PHP can be used with PHP 4 and PHP 5.
  • The MaxDB Loader is now able to process UTF-8 command files.
  • New DBM command sql_updatestat_per_systemtable for updating the statistics of only those tables that actually require a statistics update.

New Release of MySQL Connector/MXJ (1.1.1) is Now Available

MySQL Connector/MXJ may be bundled in to an existing Java application and managed as a POJO (Plain Old Java Object), a Connector/J SocketFactory, or may be deployed as a JMX MBean. This makes it easy for Java developers to deploy applications which require a database by reducing installation barriers for their end-users.
This release includes:

  • New in the 1.1.1 version are MySQL 4.1.10a resources for the following platforms:
  • Linux x86
  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Windows XP/2K/NT x86
  • SunOS sparc

New Release of MySQL Administrator for Mac OS X 1.0.6 is Now Available

MySQL Administrator is a GUI management console for MySQL, with support for tasks such as managing users, configuring MySQL, performing backups, editing table definitions etc. There are fully native versions for Linux/Gtk, Windows and now Mac OS X.
This is the first public Beta release of MySQL Administrator for Mac OS X.

New Release of MySQL Query Browser (1.1.6) is Now Available

MySQL Query Browser is a GUI query shell, intended to allow execution of SQL queries from a Web browser alike easy to use interface. It has such handy features as query history and bookmarking, tabular visualization of results, side-by-side resultset comparison and more.

This is a maintenance release and contains several bug fixes and minor feature improvements.

New in MySQL 4.1: Structure Means Subqueries: Nesting SELECTs

Subqueries are another way to get data from multiple tables using a single query, and MySQL 4.1 includes support for this standard SQL construct. Trudy Pelzer explains what this allows you to do, along with examples.

User-defined Function (UDF) Security Precautions

MySQL takes a number of measures to prevent misuse of user-defined functions including:

  • You must have the INSERT privilege to be able to use CREATE FUNCTION and the DELETE privilege to be able to use DROP FUNCTION.
  • UDFs should have at least one symbol defined in addition to the xxx symbol that corresponds to the main xxx() function.
  • UDF object files cannot be placed in arbitrary directories.
