The MySQL - SAP development partnership gained momentum during the week of 22-26 September 2003, as the joint development Kick-Off was arranged at the SAP headquarters in Walldorf, Germany. With key SAP database developers, external database professionals and the whole core of the worldwide MySQL development team present, the Kick-Off provided an excellent possibility for the top experts in the industry to share ideas and solve problems.
The aim of the Kick-Off was to plan the development of MySQL with regards to SAP R/3 requirements. The event was organised into 20 sessions covering 14 different development domains, with topics ranging from server side cursors, error handling and views to deep-thought parser and optimizer discussions.
The other important issue handled during the Kick-Off was the planning of the interface from SAP R/3 to MySQL, known as the DbSl (abbreviation for Database SQL Library). The implementation of the DbSl will form the basis for running SAP enterprise solutions on the MySQL platform.
After a successful Kick-off week, MySQL AB now has a clear picture of the next SAP related development challenges that lie ahead. With the following year's technical roadmap clarified, MySQL can now pursue the development of MySQL for demanding enterprise use at an increasing speed and with good support from SAP.
