The MySQL SET Datatype One of the least commonly used of the MySQL datatypes has to be the SET datatype. The SET datatype is a string type, but is often referred to as a complex type due to the increased complexity involved in implementing them. A SET datatype can hold any number of strings from a predefined list of strings specified during table creation. The SET datatype is similar to the ENUM datatype in that they both work with predefined sets of strings, but where the ENUM datatype restricts you to a single member of the set of predefined strings, the SET datatype allows you to store any of the values together, from none to all of them.
Online Backup with Emic Application Cluster You do not have to be a topnotch DBA to understand the need of the proper database backup and restorination procedures. Even when you have adopted a high availability solution like a clustered database system in order keep your database up and running - backup is still needed.
Foreign keys are stored in InnoDB tables SYS_FOREIGN and SYS_FOREIGN_COLS.
Setting max_allowed_packet When a MySQL client or the mysqld server gets a packet bigger than max_allowed_packet bytes, it issues a Packet too large error and closes the connection.
In MySQL 3.23 the biggest possible packet is 16M (due to limits in the client/server protocol). In MySQL 4.0.1 and up, this is only limited by the amount on memory you have on your server (up to a theoretical maximum of 2G).
Syncing Memory And Disk Is there any way to ensure, that when data is written, it is also really written to disk? I.e. I can sure data in memory and disk are in sync.
