Summary of the Patch Installation Process: ------------------------------------------ The installation shall be comprise of the following steps 1) Boot the operating system in Single-User mode. 2) Login as root 3) Run the FRU Update Utility script "updater-SunBlade1000-01" 4) Shutdown using 'shutdown -i 5 -g 0' 5) Power the machine back up. 6) Resume normal operations. ------------------------------------------ Detail of the Patch Installation -------------------------------- a) Power on the system Wait for the PROM's banner to appear, and then b) Use the Stop-A keys (or "send brk" command, if running from a serial line) to abort the auto-boot sequence. c) The system should now display the PROM monitor's "ok" prompt. ok boot disk -s NOTE: If your system's boot device is not "disk" then you will have to specify the appropriate devalias (e.g. disk2). d) Login as root: login: root password: If the binary is located in a location other than / , then provide the entire file path. # /updater-SunBlade1000-01 Answer the questions as prompted by the utility. If you see the message: Wrong Machine Type then you are attempting to run this binary on a machine for which the binary is not appropriate, please verify that uname -i prints one of: SUNW,Sun-Blade-1000 SUNW,Sun-Fire-280R If you see the message: No matching part number supported then you are attempting to run this binary on a machine with copper CPUs (Ultra Sparc III+), which do not require this patch. Running the binary on the same machine twice *may* produce, the following: CPU0: Nothing to do CPU1: Nothing to do This is normal, as are the messages: CPU0: updated CPU1: updated If any of the following messages are seen, Bad/Corrupted FRU Device write protected Then you will require assistance from Sun Service to update your machine.
