Ubuntu is distributed on four types of images described below.
Server install image
The server install image allows you to install Ubuntu permanently on a computer for use as a server. It will not install a graphical user interface.
For 64-bit ARMv8 processors and above.
PowerPC64 Little-Endian server install imageFor POWER9 and POWER10 Little-Endian systems.
IBM System z server install imageFor IBM System z series mainframes, such as IBM LinuxONE.
RISC-V server install imageFor RISC-V computers. Requires copying your own first stage bootloader (like u-boot) onto the image before usage on real hardware (like the SiFive HiFive Unmatched).
Preinstalled desktop image
The preinstalled-desktop image allows you to unpack a preinstalled version of Ubuntu onto a target device.
For modern Raspberry Pi boards (Pi 2, Pi 3 and Pi 4).
Preinstalled server image
The preinstalled-server image allows you to unpack a preinstalled version of Ubuntu onto a target device.
For modern Raspberry Pi boards (Pi 2, Pi 3 and Pi 4).

RISC-V for SiFive HiFive Unmatched preinstalled server imageFor RISC-V computers, with support for SiFive HiFive Unmatched and QEMU.
