Wicd is installed from the Repository and the Repository can be enabled from Synaptic.

 Description:

• Wicd is a network connection manager for wireless and wired cards.
• named network profiles, select between static IP addresses and DHCP on a per network basis
• store different static IPs, gateways, subnet masks, DNS server addresses per network
• wireless networks, automatically connect at boot - no user intervention required, even for encrypted networks,
• automatically selects between static IP addresses and DHCP on a per network basis,
• encryption (template based), WPA 1/2, WEP, LEAP, TTLS, EAP, and PEAP
• automatically connects at resume from suspend
• displays information about the network
• You can also make your own Templates for Wicd to use.

1. XFCE Menu -->Network --> Wicd
2. XFCE 4 mintConfig --> Networking --> Wicd

Using Wicd:

• Ethernet only computers do not need Wicd and can be removed from the Autostarted Applications by unchecking the box next to Wicd.
• For Ethernet settings use Network Settings(XFCE Menu --> System --> Network) 
• Leaving both enabled works fine but changes have to be made in Network Settings(XFCE Menu --> System --> Network) for them to be used.(Wicd needs a restart to show any changes made.)

• Make sure Network has the wireless card disabled.
• Click Hidden network if the network wasn't auto detected and enter the ESSID.
• Click the triangles next to the ESSID to change the settings to connect to that wireless network.
• Preferences has the  settings for the WPA Supplicant Driver if it needs to be changed.
