That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we 1:2. For the life was manifested: and we have seen and do bear witness 1:3. That which we have seen and have heard, we declare unto you: that 1:4. And these things we write to you, that you may rejoice and your joy 1:5. And this is the declaration which we have heard from him and 1:6. If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in darkness, we 1:7. But if we walk in the light, as he also is in the light, we have 1:8. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth 1:9. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, to forgive us our 1:10. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar: and his 1 John Chapter 2 Christ is our advocate. We must keep his commandments and love one 2:1. My little children, these things I write to you, that you may not 2:3. And by this we know that we have known him, if we keep his We have known him, if we keep his commandments... He speaks of that 2:4. He who saith that he knoweth him and keepeth not his commandments 2:5. But he that keepeth his word, in him in very deed the charity of 2:6. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also to walk even as 2:7. Dearly beloved, I write not a new commandment to you, but an old 2:8. Again a new commandment I write unto you: which thing is true both A new commandment... Viz., the commandment of love, which was first 2:9. He that saith he is in the light and hateth his brother is in 2:10. He that loveth his brother abideth in the light: and there is no 2:11. But he that hateth his brother is in darkness and walketh in 2:12. I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven 2:13. I write unto you, fathers, because you have known him who is from 2:14. I write unto you, babes, because you have known the Father. I 2:15. Love not the world, nor the things which are in the world. If any 2:16. For all that is in the world is the concupiscence of the flesh and 2:17. And the world passeth away and the concupiscence thereof: but he 2:18. Little children, it is the last hour: and as you have heard that It is the last hour... That is, it is the last age of the world. Many 2:19. They went out from us but they were not of us. For if they had They were not of us... That is, they were not solid, steadfast, genuine 2:20. But you have the unction from the Holy One and know all things. The unction from the Holy One... That is, grace and wisdom from the Holy 2:21. I have not written to you as to them that know not the truth, but 2:22. Who is a liar, but he who denieth that Jesus is the Christ? This 2:23. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father. He that 2:24. As for you, let that which you have heard from the beginning abide 2:25. And this is the promise which he hath promised us, life 2:26. These things have I written to you concerning them that seduce 2:27. And as for you, let the unction, which you have received from him You have no need, etc... You want not to be taught by any of these men, 2:28. And now, little children, abide in him, that when he shall appear 2:29. If you know that he is just, know ye, that every one also who doth 1 John Chapter 3 Of the love of God to us. How we may distinguish the children of God and 3:1. Behold what manner of charity the Father hath bestowed upon us, 3:2. Dearly beloved, we are now the sons of God: and it hath not yet 3:3. And every one that hath this hope in him sanctifieth himself, as he 3:4. Whosoever committeth sin committeth also iniquity. And sin is Iniquity... transgression of the law. 3:5. And you know that he appeared to take away our sins: and in him 3:6. Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: and whosoever sinneth hath Sinneth not... viz., mortally. See chap. 1.8. 3:7. Little children, let no man deceive you. He that doth justice is 3:8. He that committeth sin is of the devil: for the devil sinneth from 3:9. Whosoever is born of God committeth not sin: for his seed abideth Committeth not sin... That is, as long as he keepeth in himself this 3:10. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the 3:11. For this is the declaration which you have heard from the 3:12. Not as Cain, who was of the wicked one and killed his brother. 3:13. Wonder not, brethren, if the world hate you. 3:14. We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love 3:15. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer. And you know that no 3:16. In this we have known the charity of God, because he hath laid 3:17. He that hath the substance of this world and shall see his brother 3:18. My little children, let us not love in word nor in tongue, but in 3:19. In this we know that we are of the truth and in his sight shall 3:20. For if our heart reprehend us, God is greater than our heart and 3:21. Dearly beloved, if our heart do not reprehend us, we have 3:22. And whatsoever we shall ask, we shall receive of him: because we 3:23. And this is his commandment: That we should believe in the name of 3:24. And he that keepeth his commandments abideth in him, and he in 1 John Chapter 4 What spirits are of God, and what are not. We must love one another, 4:1. Dearly beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits if Try the spirits... Viz., by examining whether their teaching be 4:2. By this is the spirit of God known. Every spirit which confesseth Every spirit which confesseth, etc... Not that the confession of this 4:3. And every spirit that dissolveth Jesus is not of God. And this is That dissolveth Jesus... Viz., either by denying his humanity, or his 4:4. You are of God, little children, and have overcome him. Because 4:5. They are of the world. Therefore of the world they speak: and the 4:6. We are of God. He that knoweth God heareth us. He that is not of 4:7. Dearly beloved, let us love one another: for charity is of God. And 4:8. He that loveth not knoweth not God: for God is charity. 4:9. By this hath the charity of God appeared towards us, because God 4:10. In this is charity: not as though we had loved God, but because he 4:11. My dearest, if God hath so loved us, we also ought to love one 4:12. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God 4:13. In this we know that we abide in him, and he in us: because he 4:14. And we have seen and do testify that the Father hath sent his Son 4:15. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abideth 4:16. And we have known and have believed the charity which God hath to 4:17. In this is the charity of God perfected with us, that we may have 4:18. Fear is not in charity: but perfect charity casteth out fear, Fear is not in charity, etc... Perfect charity, or love, banisheth human 4:19. Let us therefore love God: because God first hath loved us. 4:20. If any man say: I love God, and hateth his brother; he is a liar. 4:21. And this commandment we have from God, that he who loveth God love 1 John Chapter 5 Of them that are born of God, and of true charity. Faith overcomes the 5:1. Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ, is born of God. And Is born of God... That is, is justified, and become a child of God by 5:2. In this we know that we love the children of God: when we love God 5:3. For this is the charity of God: That we keep his commandments. And 5:4. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world. And this is the Our faith... Not a bare, speculative, or dead faith; but a faith that 5:5. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that 5:6. This is he that came by water and blood, Jesus Christ: not by water Came by water and blood... Not only to wash away our sins by the water 5:7. And there are Three who give testimony in heaven, the Father, the 5:8. And there are three that give testimony on earth: the spirit and The spirit, and the water, and the blood... As the Father, the Word, and 5:9. If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is 5:10. He that believeth in the Son of God hath the testimony of God in He that believeth not the Son, etc... By refusing to believe the 5:11. And this is the testimony that God hath given to us eternal life. 5:12. He that hath the Son hath life. He that hath not the Son hath not 5:13. These things I write to you that you may know that you have 5:14. And this is the confidence which we have towards him: That, 5:15. And we know that he heareth us whatsoever we ask: we know that we 5:16. He that knoweth his brother to sin a sin which is not to death, A sin which is not to death, etc... It is hard to determine what St. 5:17. All iniquity is sin. And there is a sin unto death. 5:18. We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not: but the 5:19. We know that we are of God and the whole world is seated in And the whole world is seated in wickedness... That is, a great part of 5:20. And we know that the Son of God is come. And he hath given us And may be in his true Son. He is, or this is the true God, and life 5:21. Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. Keep yourselves from idols... Thus, we usually do not keep eBooks in compliance with any particular paper edition. We are now trying to release all our eBooks one year in advance of the official release dates, leaving time for better editing. Please be encouraged to tell us about any error or corrections, even years after the official publication date. Please note neither this listing nor its contents are final til midnight of the last day of the month of any such announcement. The official release date of all Project Gutenberg eBooks is at Midnight, Central Time, of the last day of the stated month. A preliminary version may often be posted for suggestion, comment and editing by those who wish to do so. Most people start at our Web sites at: http://gutenberg.net or http://promo.net/pg These Web sites include award-winning information about Project Gutenberg, including how to donate, how to help produce our new eBooks, and how to subscribe to our email newsletter (free!). Those of you who want to download any eBook before announcement can get to them as follows, and just download by date. This is also a good way to get them instantly upon announcement, as the indexes our cataloguers produce obviously take a while after an announcement goes out in the Project Gutenberg Newsletter. http://www.ibiblio.org/gutenberg/etext03 or ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/docs/books/gutenberg/etext03 Or /etext02, 01, 00, 99, 98, 97, 96, 95, 94, 93, 92, 92, 91 or 90 Just search by the first five letters of the filename you want, as it appears in our Newsletters. Information about Project Gutenberg (one page) We produce about two million dollars for each hour we work. The time it takes us, a rather conservative estimate, is fifty hours to get any eBook selected, entered, proofread, edited, copyright searched and analyzed, the copyright letters written, etc. Our projected audience is one hundred million readers. If the value per text is nominally estimated at one dollar then we produce $2 million dollars per hour in 2002 as we release over 100 new text files per month: 1240 more eBooks in 2001 for a total of 4000+ We are already on our way to trying for 2000 more eBooks in 2002 If they reach just 1-2% of the world's population then the total will reach over half a trillion eBooks given away by year's end. The Goal of Project Gutenberg is to Give Away 1 Trillion eBooks! This is ten thousand titles each to one hundred million readers, which is only about 4% of the present number of computer users.
